What do you really want from your
relationship?
When we say "serious soul searching" we are
talking about first examining what it is that you really want
out of the relationship. Over time people and things
change, so when you have been married for a long time, your
partner may have changed and since you've been with them for so
long, you might not have noticed the change. The same
concept applies to yourself. You might not even recognize
that you've changed. Take some time for yourself to
accurately see the changes in yourself. You may find that
as you've matured and grown, you are now seeing and
understanding that you are looking for different things that
satisfy you. Talk to your partner about these findings
and see what changes they've noticed in themselves.
Having this conversation is the first step in how to save
marriage from divorce.
Does your partner want the same
thing?
The next step is once you've
figured out what you are looking for in the relationship, talk
to your partner to see if they are wanting the same
thing. Initially, your partner doesn't have to want the
same exact thing as you do, but at least make sure that your
partner is interested in how to save marriage from divorce as
well. There is no sense in continuing with the process if
your partner isn't cooperating. If your partner has given
you the green light and is going to commit to saving your
marriage, then you've already made a huge step toward
success. The next part gets trickier, but if
accomplished, it's well worth the work.
When did you start feeling
unhappy?
Now, you and your partner really
need to sit down and talk about at what point in your
relationship you started feeling unhappy. The reason this
is the hardest part is because it's so easy to think back and
assign blame, but that is not the purpose of this step.
The purpose is to uncover other issues or misgivings that may
have been going on during that time. If you can do this
without placing blame on each other, there is a good chance
that things can be dealt with in a mature way and it very well
could be how to save marriage from
divorce.
